Spring produce a-plenty at the market this week!
Spring is in full bloom here at Irvington Farmers Market! This Sunday, we’ll be kicking off live music at the market with the incredible folk musician Colin McGrath playing from 10:30-12:30.
I am also thrilled to have Halal Pastures Farm with us again this week! I was sad to miss their Irvington debut at our last market, but I've heard so much about them and I’m so looking forward to the their hyper-seasonal offerings, like foraged ramps and fiddlehead ferns, both fleetingly special. Fiddlehead ferns are only available in the early spring as ferns start to sprout in New York. Their gentle, nutty flavor makes them perfect additions to all kinds of spring salads, and they make delicious sides or pasta toppers when sauteed with garlic. Fiddlehead soup with chives is a beautiful dish for a rainy day, or you can bake them into a tart if you’re looking for the perfect addition to a springtime brunch spread.
This week’s market also falls on Mother’s day! If you’re celebrating with mom, other loved ones, or just want to start your Sunday off right, look no further than the delicious breakfast options at The Fearless Cook Food Truck. They have staples like egg and cheese biscuits alongside an ever-rotating menu of flavorful and nutritious meals. For dessert (because who doesn’t want dessert after breakfast at the farmers market?), you can pay a visit to chef Thierry at Escargot Voyageur and try any of his delicious crêpes. Or, if you’re looking to wow mom with a homemade dessert, you can get creative and use loose Earl Grey leaves from Teagevity in a fantastic and subtly herbal Earl Grey tea cake.
Bring a blanket to the market and enjoy a picnic with Mom before or after your market shop.
Sea Change Flower Farm will be back with gorgeous May blossoms for anyone in your life who "mothers."
We’ll see you at the market!
