Summer's on!
The crates of beautiful leggy, grass-green asparagus at Caradonna Farm caught my eye last weekend, because there are so many delicious recipes I often want to highlight in this blog that put asparagus front and center! Let’s start with breakfast: this blistered asparagus frittatabeautifully blends fresh yolky-eggs from R&M Farm with Gruyère from Aux Bons Fromages while still showcasing the hearty, green star of the show.
For lunch, you could try this asparagus grain bowl with mushrooms from Madura Farm, which would keep well in the fridge for a balanced spring meal that keeps on giving. Last but certainly not least, this gorgeous spring salad with radishes from Halal Pastures will provide some zest to a fresh summer dinner.
This Sunday, we officially launch our summer season. In addition to extended hours (we're open 9 to 1:30 p.m. now through Thanksgiving) we are thrilled to bring you a bevy of new vendors! This year we are so happy to bring you more produce than in years past.
As many of you know, Hunter and Conor of Stoneberry Farm won't be returning this year. They hit a snag with the lease on their Coxsackie farmland and have decided to take a pause on markets, lay fallow as it were. Letting strips of land and soil rest for a season to replenish and refuel is a common farming technique among no-till farmers like Mossy Stone Farm who will be stepping in for Stoneberry. They have a very similar crop plan - yes, they will have blush berries, kohlrabi and husk cherries. And flowers, too.
Please give them a warm welcome as you have done with Halal Pastures, which has already made quite the impression since they joined us mid-winter.
Also, drumroll please, Letterbox Farm, of Hudson NY, famous for their fresh chicken, pork, and for their savory pot pies and sausages they make with their pastured meats is also joining our lineup, weekly. They will also be selling smoked trout from Hudson Valley Fishery, their neighbor. Please give them a warm welcome.
Also new: The Hampton Grocer’s small-batch, super nutty granola is sure to dress up yogurt from The White Moustache or refreshing smoothie bowls made from vibrant seasonal berries. Look for flavors like raspberry lemon and almond butter and chocolate. This highly-addictive granola comes in bags or Mason jars.
We are not allowed to sell local spirits at the market because we are on school property but that doesn't mean we can't sell things that taste great with spirits such as Bloody Good Mud,a small-batch Bloody Mary mix that is sure to spice up your boozy brunches.
Summer season means that the DoughNation Pizza Truck will be with us weekly. So swing on by for a "market-inspired" pie.
French crèpes are always an option. too, courtesy of Chef Thierry at The Escargot Voyeageur.
As per tradition, our good friends and house band, Milton, will be performing on opening day from 10:30-12:30, so come on by and enjoy a beautiful day at the market!
We can’t wait to usher in the summer with you!
