Ginger is in

This week at IFM, we’re highlighting an ingredient that certainly makes itself known: ginger! Ginger lends its signature zest to these scallion ramen noodles, and does quite a bit of heavy lifting for those of us who feel a bit sick from the seasonal shift. Ramen is a year-round favorite of mine, and, as the recipe notes, the peppery, savory ginger sauce is simple to make and mixes well with so many other proteins and mains.

Our farmers also have some beautiful cherry tomatoes that are reaching the end of their season! This spiced ginger shrimp with burst tomatoes will help you make the most of their bright, juicy flavor before they’re gone, and you’ll love it with shrimp from Pura Vida. My seasonal tea-drinking has begun in earnest, so I’ve been craving a hot cup of Masala chai, whose iconic spice blend features ginger from Halal Pastures Farm or Madura Farm, maple syrup from Maplebrook Farm Creamery, and loose black tea from Teagevity.

I also heated up some of Urban Bohemia’s sweet potato soup for dinner this week, and it made my night. It’s creamy, sweet, and packs an awesome, spicy punch. Speaking of delicious soups, make sure to pay a visit to Jody’s Kitchen this Sunday! Her premade soups, salts, and dressings make cooking throughout the week a breeze (and her sage-cider vinaigrette is one of my all-time favorite salad dressings.)

Please also welcome Shh-Our-Dough to the market! Their partially baked loaves let you bring home the magic of artisanal sourdough bread with just a few minutes in the oven. And some gooey brownies from Elderberry Road round the haul off nicely! Bruce Carroll will be playing music at the market from 10:30-12:30. See you there!
