The Hudson Valley represents all its fall glory at the market this week!
Happy Halloween! May you eat all the candy your heart desires and come to Sunday’s market hungry for some healthy options from the Hudson Valley.
And of course, Happy Diwali! To add to your celebrations, pick up some corn from Caradonna Farm to use in spicy corn pakoras. They’re crisp, gorgeously spiced, and can adapt to whatever veggies are in season! Plus, the sweet and sour mango-tamarind chutney will steal your heart.
The dragon tongue beans from Halal Pastures Farm are also particularly fetching right now, and their similarities to green beans make them ideal for on-the-go snacking. When I told Amelle, the lovely woman who manages the farmstand, how much I love them, she agreed that they’re incredible eaten out of hand. But if you want to cook them, this salad with pancetta and mushrooms from Tivoli or Madura is an excellent place to start. I must be a fall person because I am absolutely loving all the produce at the market right now. Let's talk about those Brussels sprouts from Madura Farm! Rashaun and I were excitedly trading recipes last week, and I forgot to mention one of my favorites: a simple salad, like a deconstructed BLT, which has shredded Brussels sprouts, bacon (I use tempeh, but I’m sure it’s great with the real thing!), pomegranate seeds, and creamy tahini dressing. Caramelized Brussels sprouts with Wildyards Pasta is another winning combination.
It's worth noting that I baked a loaf of Shh--our--dough’s bread last week with friends, and we finished the entire loaf in one sitting. No joke. It was that good.
Noble Pies is filling in for Elderberry Rd. this week...fyi.
Please enjoy a gorgeous fall day with us and Milton, and please, remember to VOTE!!!
