Bring a Blanket

Temperatures are inching up to the 90s this weekend and you may have noticed that vendors are no longer parking on the grass field behind the market. Bring a blanket and have fun shopping, then brunch on the lawn.

Obvious choices...That bright orange food truck, Hand Held Kitchen, with owners whose dispositions match their cheery mobile kitchen. Nate and Charlie bake their own bread, keep their own bees and make their own pickles. They source locally to create a sustainable and seasonal menu. Their homestyle sandwiches, ranging from breakfast to banh mi, showcase area ingredients.

A perennial favorite, True Food, also offers breakfast burritos and wraps. Owner/chef Pamela Schultz’s mission is to make healthy, pure, nutrient rich food...inspiring people to eat better, eat mindfully, and live longer. Their revolving array of organic soups, salads, bowls and sweets satisfy any culinary inclination. An easy lunch choice of mine is one of their chicken salad varieties topped with 4E Farms micro greens.

If you haven’t discovered the Farm Eats BBQ sandwiches, it’s high time. "Farm to Smoker" FarmEats 100% Grass Fed Beef, Pasture Raised Pork and Chicken BBQ on Wave Hill brioche buns. The perfect accompaniment being a salad from True Food or Nutmeg and something from the plethora of pickled pickings at Doc Pickle.

Speaking of which, Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching and there is no Irvington market next Sunday. (Weekly Sunday markets begin June 5.) So you will want to stock up on your picnic and BBQ favorites this week. The knife sharpener, Ready Set Sharp, will also be set up this week to get your knives and gardening implements in tip top shape.

Back to “grazing on the green”... Jody’s Kitchen is now bringing her seasonal grain bowls. This week’s menu includes Quinoa, Chickpeas, Roasted Beets, Carrots + Walnuts with Smoky Tahini Dressing and Farro, Radish, Asparagus + Kale with Ramp Vinaigrette.

Tuck your Swiss army knife in your pocket to slice some Bien Cuit, Wave Hill or 3x3 Kitchen (gluten-free) bread, Cooperstown Cheese and seasonal fruits and vegetables. Arlotta Food Studio has some tempting new fruit spreads, and AYA Hummus is healthy and addicting! Hudson Valley Fisheries and Pura Vida also have great smoked trout and salmon and spreads. R&M Farm and Goode and Local have top quality jerky and smoked beef and pork.

If you’re lucky, you might be in time for a famous Joe Tomato mozzarella or diRiso focaccia sandwich; they always sell out! Grab a cannoli kit or tiramisu jar from LaTrafila for the perfect Italian dessert.

You’ll be happy to find Keith of Forward Roots back with their kimchi collection. The ingredients for this roast chicken and kimchi smashed potatoes recipe can easily be sourced from the market.

Escargot Voyageur will be missing this Sunday’s market but you can find them at the Hastings market on Saturday.

Need a graduation gift? Gina with Myriad Mirage returns with her beautiful and unique nature inspired jewelry and gifts.

Richard Cortez Jazz is back to top off your experience; plenty of room to dance on the lawn.

See you Sunday!
