Summer season and strawberries
Summer Season is back at the Irvington Farmers Market! We will now be open every Sunday from 9am to 1:30pm. We’re excited to welcome back some familiar faces and some new ones.
The DoughNation Pizza Truck returns and we can’t wait to see what they feature as their market pie, which they concoct after perusing the market offerings. I'm sure there will be plenty of fetching options between Stoneberry Farm and Deep Roots Farm, a new organic farm joining us from Copake, NY. They will have lots of garlic scapes for pesto this week. Make sure to try some of their pickled yellow beets! Hunter and Connor recently relocated Stoneberry Farm to Athens, NY and have been hard at work to bring us an even better array of certified organic produce. Deep Roots Farm, certified organic too, is not only expanding their market presence by returning to some Morning Glory Markets, but they also recently welcomed a new “farmerette”, Fiona.
Escargot Voyageur’s weekly specials are ratatouille, green peppers stuffed with beef, supreme chicken and chicken tagine with dried fruit, along with his usual quiche, savory tarts and desserts.
Copper Faucet Soap Company is back with their handcrafted and pleasantly fragranced soaps, scrubs, body butters, bath salts and soy candles. Speaking of pleasant fragrances, strawberry will be wafting through the market plaza with the return of Wrights Farm and Caradonna Farms’ abundance. This Strawberry Summer Cake would make the perfect showcase for those berries.
Strawberries also pair beautifully with summer market greens and a goat or other recommended cheese from Cooperstown Cheese then dressed with Arlotta Food Studio oil and vinegars.
This Rhubarbecue is a unique pairing of strawberries and rhubarb. R&M Farm, Goode and Local and FarmEats offer the perfect meats to slather or braise.
Try a refreshing treat from new vendor Mom and Ice pops; a Brooklyn based family business making unique, seasonal, locally sourced ingredient icepops. How about an American Dream - fresh strawberries with a little bit of basil or tarty party - rhubarb and strawberry make a "berry stalk-worthy" popsicle? Teagevity also has a limited amount of their ever popular blends in frozen form.
Charlotte Boyle grew up in a cake-baking family in her native England. During the pandemic she started baking cakes to stay connected to her family, using the rhubarb, calendula and bergamot from her backyard. Because Charlotte is a designer by trade, the cakes, all gluten-free, are as painterly as they are delicious. Lucky us, she's turned her hobby into a full-fledged business, Charlotte's Home Kitchen. One of her latest creations is a rainbow coconut cake, made with banana, pineapple and coconut sugar, topped with coconut cream icing and naturally dyed rainbow coconut shreds using spirulina, turmeric and radish.
Vegan bakery Muscovado Sweets, is on a mission to create aesthetic, delicious and lovingly-made desserts (from scones to cookies to cakes) that will be enjoyed by vegans and non-vegans alike. This black-owned business is named for a dark brown, unrefined cane sugar that translates, literally, to "brown sugar."
WOW...How can you not be excited?
See you on Sunday!
