Fall into figs, curries & soups
Fig season is here and it is fleeting.
So make sure you pick up some fleshy figs at Wrights Farm this week. Figs are a vibrant fruit that work well with both sweet and savory dishes. Use them for fall baking, for spreads and preserves, tossed in salads with goat cheese salads, or quartered also on a cheese or charcuterie platter. Try this fig and chicken sandwich or this fig yogurt almond cake.
We are so excited to bring you a new bagel vendor to the market this week – DoughCo. Bagels. Joshua Small is originally from Chappaqua. He went to Chicago to pursue a career in finance, but somehow got sidetracked along the way perfecting a homespun bagel recipe. Now he bakes several hundred a week in New York, using local flour and malt, which, trust us, makes all the difference. This is Joshua's first foray into the farmers market world, so please give him a warm welcome.
After the rainy weekend, I am looking forward to making this comforting chicken noodle soup. I wish I could somehow make a vat of it for all those reeling from Hurricane Ian’s ravaging swath.
Mama Lam’s is back in Irvington this week where folks are really enjoying her curry pastes and sauces. This is the “simmer” season after all. Pick up some sweet potatoes from Deep Roots Farm to make this sumptuous sweet potato curry.
Hand Held Kitchen is back for their final week of the season. The farm to table food truck with the terrific sandwiches, is hanging up their shingle for a while. Please wish them luck in their new adventures and enjoy one of their grilled cheese or goat cheese and roasted beet sandwiches one last time.
The Francie Malina team at COMPASS is sponsoring a petting zoo featuring rabbits, pigs and chickens, from 11 to 1 p.m. Bring the kids for some farm fun.
We have a very special treat in the music tent this week: Hastings High School’s musical wunderkind, jazz musician/composer Jasper Zimmerman will be performing from 10:45 to 12:45. You don’t want to miss this!
See you at the market!
