Season finale!

I cannot believe Thanksgiving is in six days! Our vendors are certainly gearing up for a big market day on Sunday. It's always such a fun, high -energy day at the market.

Some of you may remember that I like to incorporate Native American recipes into my Thanksgiving spread, and this year is no different! The first on this list of recipes from 5 indigenous chefs showcases a warming, flavorful hominy stew from Chef Loretta Barrett Oden of the Potawatomi Nation. Broth from Letterbox this colorful mixture of ground turkey from R&M Farm, tomatoes from Halal Pastures Farm, hominy, and spices with a hearty and nutritious base. Consider it a new (or rather, an original) take on the classic Thanksgiving turkey. (Please check out the rest of the list for more delicious inspiration, and remember to have Matt sharpen your knives at Ready, Set, Sharp! before you chop.)

If you’re looking for a simple but flavorful side, chef Sean Sherman recommends roasting seasonal veggies, like winter squash and sweet potatoes from Madura Farm, with mild oil, salt, and chopped sage. Once they’re nearly roasted to your liking, brush them with a mixture of maple syrup, maple vinegar, and mustard, bake for another few minutes, and you’re ready to go! Joe Ferrara Woodworking will have some beautiful cutting boards and serving trays at this week’s market, so be sure to take a pause in your shopping to admire them. They may seem too beautiful to use as cutting boards but the beauty is that you can chop on one side and serve on the other!

Some farmers have recently been surprised by a late fall strawberry harvest, so if you happen to see some that strike your fancy, try these strawberry and wild rice tartlets for dessert! They’re bite-sized, sweet, and crunchy – the perfect morsel after a huge meal. And please welcome Maxine’s Chocolaterie to the market! Maxine set out to make delectably sweet, French-inspired chocolate truffles after moving back to Nyack in 2020, and her beautiful gift boxes are sure to delight hosts and guests alike.

While you’re shopping for the perfect gift, Jenny from AYA Hummus has a gorgeous holiday sampler pack with three fan favorites: fig balsamic, apple cinnamon, and pumpkin chipotle. I could go on about everyone’s offerings, but you’ll just have to come by and see them for yourself!

I want to thank each of you for an amazing summer season. I am so lucky to spend my Sundays with you, vendors and customers alike, and I look forward to many more to come.
