Summer's here and so are cherries and...paella!

Here's reason alone to get to the market early on Sunday: both Caradonna Farm and Wright's Farm will be bringing bins and bins of cherries, both sweet and sour.  Although you can, of course, use them to make fresh desserts like this roasted cherry sorbet, you can also use them in savory preparations: Simmer them with brandy and herbs to serve  alongside grilled pork chops from R&M Farm, for example. Of course, cherry clafoutis is the easiest dessert out there and always a crowd pleaser. Try this recipe from The Washington Post.

It's also great to see that tomato season is peeking its head through summer's door. Madura Farm is bringing their first tomatoes of the season. I'm eager to use them in this vibrant fried rice using rice from Great Joy Family Farm, of course, and eggs from Wright's or R&M Farm.

Last week, I was lucky enough to take home pea shoots from Stoneberry Farm, which got me thinking about all the different ways to prepare them. As a lover of anything with soy sauce, this recipe for soy-glazed salmon caught my eye. Pura Vida has fresh salmon, and Madura Farm has their always-flavorful selection of mushrooms that would do nicely. Pea shoots are also fantastic over ramen or chopped salads and simply eaten out of hand as a healthy snack as I see some people do at the market. (You know who you are!).

Spain at Home is FINALLY at the market this week. She was unable to come when the air quality was bad. This Sunday, chef Laura Arias will be making a traditional Valencia-style paella featuring hicken, flat white beans (“garrofó” beans), flat green beans, paprika, saffron and Bomba Rice. They will start cooking upon set-up at 8:30 a.m. and the first batch of paella will be ready around 9:30 am. The paella sells very quickly, so shoppers should feel free to stop by the booth and reserve and pre-pay for their orders. Their second paella will be available around 11:30, in time for lunch. You will smell the saffron from Main St. I guarantee it!

Another new vendor, Anita's Guacamole will be joining our party, making guacamole in a giant molcajete. If you're feeling adventurous, pick up some fresh guacamole to make these Moroccan nachos with ground beef from FarmEats.  You can never go wrong by adding autentica  salsa from Salsa Wallito, also returning. Do I sense a Latin theme here?

Sam Brown will be singing and playing the guitar t from 10:30-12:30, and we encourage you to sit at our cafe tables or on the field to take a load off and enjoy her tunes. Feel free to grab some lunch Spain at Home, or Leila's Empanadas to eat while you relax.

Ready, Set, Sharp! Knife Sharpening will be at the market to help you get those knives ready for chopping.

We'll see you at the market!

Sierra,
your Market Manager
