Juneteenth, Dads & Grads...oh my!

We've got some holidays to celebrate at IFM this week! In honor of Juneteenth, I recommend picking up some delicious shrimp from Pura Vida and trying out this shrimp Creole. You can serve it with rice from Great Joy Family Farm and use some of Emmaline's Hot Sauce for some spicy razzle dazzle.

Alice and Alicia Crowe, twin sisters, have taken on the hot sauce mantle in their family. The secret recipe sauce (lots of peppers, no tomatoes) was created by their grandmother who is proudly featured on their label wearing her wedding dress circa 1910.

When the girls were growing up, the sauce was a permanent fixture on their kitchen table.

Their mother got the recipe from her mother and started selling it retail, and the sauce was gaining a following, when she died suddenly during the pandemic. Her daughters decided to come out of retirement to put Emmaline's Hot Sauce back to kitchen tables everywhere.

They launched two years ago, very intentionally on Juneteenth.

Their upbeat personality, colorful aprons - and zesty hot pepper sauce - are such a wonderful addition to our market.

Of course, we're also celebrating Father's Day this Sunday,...and we hope we can help make a dad or father figur, feel extra special on Sunday.  My dad certainly loves to grill so we may grill up some skirt steak with shallot-thyme butterusing steak from R&M or Farm Eats and shallots from Madura Farm. For a light side dish, we will saute some of those beautiful fioretto cauliflower ( from Stoneberry Farm (they are to cauliflower what broccolini is to brocoli). Simply drizzle with olive oil and roast them for 20 minutes or so. Or https://heartbeetkitchen.com/grill-lettuce-video-italian-grilled-romaine-salad/grill up some romaine salad

Grab some fresh dill from Stoneberry while you're there to make this green salad with dill vinaigrette.

Having a graduation party? Cooperstown Cheese and Goode & Local can help with all your cheese and charcuterie board needs.
Whichever holiday or person you are celebrating, do make this strawberry spoon cake since the strawberries from Wright's Farm and Caradonna Farm are so delectable right now.

Ambrosia Juicery will be making acai bowls, smoothies and a fresh selection of plant-based meals,

Raw Chocolate Love returns with more vegan, organic dark chocolate...but also with a new healthy twist on Nutella that you don't want to miss!

Milton will be playing music from 10:30 to -12:30. Bring a picnic blanket (or borrow one of ours) and bring dad to the market for a bbq sandwich from FarmEATS or a crepe from Escargot Voyageur. Sit back and enjoy our cool Sunday vibe.

A gentle reminder: Please respect the market's opening time of 9 a.m. so the vendors have enough time to set up their stalls and aren't rushing to organize during market hours. We enforce this policy both for the vendors' peace of mind and so you're not  in danger when cars and trucks back in and out of the market during load-in. Thank you!

We'll see you at the market!
