Accessorize

We all know how that perfect piece of jewelry or pair of shoes can bring an outfit to a whole new level. Well the same goes for your main course when you “accessorize” from the market.

Before we go there, let’s talk main course. Days are quickly counting down to the big November holidays. Be it Thanksgiving and/or Hanukkah, we have you covered. Turkey or chicken from R & M Farm. They can help you with beef too as can Farm Eats. Pura Vida has beautiful salmon and Hudson Valley Fisheries steelhead trout is another great option. Vegetarian, how about this butternut squash lasagna? Plenty of squash still on the market tables and Joe Tomato has your mozzarella.

We’ve all been to meals where we’ve discovered a new favorite cheese on the charcuterie board or needed to know where to purchase a certain item from the bread basket. You can easily find plenty of these meal enhancing “accessories” among our vendors.

Have you tried Cooperstown Cheese award-winning Jersey Girl or Toma Celena, a semi-hard and natural rind cheese that combines a savory nutty and a slightly sweet flavor, and has been served at a Presidential Inaugural Luncheon? Jersey Girl is a creamy, rich, mouth-watering cheese made with 100% raw Jersey cow’s milk. The taste incorporates subtle hints of herbal flavors with a remarkably smooth texture. Liven your bread basket with some Bien Cuit wholegrain cranberry walnut rolls, 123 Dough sourdough olive rolls, Wave Hill three cheese monkey bread or 3x3 Kitchen gluten-free shishito corn muffins.

AYA Hummus is back this week. Jenny Fernandez is building quite a following with her fresh, seasonal, nutrient enhanced flavors made with no preservatives, fillers or questionable ingredients.  AYA is an acronym for Awaken your Awareness...to food that supports your well being. As a mental health professional it became very evident to her the powerful connection between wellness practices and mental health. Now a certified yoga instructor and holistic health coach, Jenny’s hummus reflects her acquired knowledge of good health. It’s vibrant colors and unique flavors will enhance your crudité and crackers.

The smallest addition can made a dish a conversation starter. Kontoulis
truffle balsamic vinegar drizzled on roasted vegetables, Doc Pickle martini mix at your bar, or how about this unique pickle of spaghetti squash?

On the subject of accessories, Diana visits again with her aprons, napkins, masks, totes and holiday items. As a former Broadway costumer, she is nimble with needle and thread and many of her items are made from repurposed fabrics. You’re sure to find something for someone on your gift list here.

A reminder that Ready Set Sharp was unable to make his regularly scheduled first Sunday visit last week. He will be at the ready this Sunday with his wheel to sharpen all your dull knives, scissors or other cutting implements.

Also, DoughNation had retired their pizza truck for the winter but Pizza Vitale rolls in this week. Have you tried their calzone?

How will you will be “acessorizing” your holiday meals? Stop by the market table and share your ideas.
