Apricots, cherries and fresh trout!
Hudson River Fisheries is at the market this week and if you haven't tried some of their beautiful smoked steelhead on a slice of toasted pain de mie with a thin layer of cream cheese, then...you're missing out. Big time.
What's the difference between smoked salmon and smoked trout?
Their fresh trout (which looks like salmon but is less bland in flavor) is so delicious baked, with fresh herbs and a little garlic and a drizzle of Arlotta Food Studio lemon oil. If Dad can't go trout fishing this Father's Day, then this may just be the next best thing.
Of course, if the father figure in your life is all about the steak...both R&M Farms and Farm EATS are happy to assist.
Yes, it's true, Asian Farmer Dumpling is back at the market with his "farm to table" dumplings. Folks were so happy to see him on opening day and word of his return rippled through the Rivertowns. He will be with us every first and third Sunday.
This weekend marks the official start of summer and so it's only natural that there will be plenty of cherries at the market. Wright's Farm will have sweet cherries and Caradonna Farm will have both sweet and sour cherries. This New York Times recipe for "twice-baked" sour cherry pie is the bomb and manages to keep a crunchy crust despite all the cherry juice nectar. If you don't want to make your own pie, Wright's Farm will have cherry pie and both Noble Pies and Wright's are also featuring strawberry rhubarb pies this weekend. (You may want to pre-order).
Caradonna will also be bringing the very first apricots of the season. The apricots might be a bit tart this early in the summer, so consider using them in savory recipes as in these quick and easy chicken and apricot kebabs.
Knot of this World Pretzels is back this week in case you missed them on opening day and heard the buzz about their savory and sweet pretzels, all hand-twisted and made with New York state flour.
If you need a last minute gift for Dad, consider stopping at The Copper Faucet tent for some cedarwood soap.
See you at the market!
