Beat the Heat!

A few weeks ago, Ryan from Pura Vida noted that it’s not enough to simply drink water in this heat; to stay healthy, you must eat hydrating foods in the form of summer fruits and veggies. Madura Farm and Halal Pastures Farm have beautiful varieties of yellow and green zucchini, whose mild sweetness perfectly offsets the brininess of shrimp in this light linguine dish with summer corn. Or try this crowd-pleasing Roasted Zucchini. Sweet corn is a favorite all summer long, and it’s easy to get creative with it. This week, you might try pan-roasting to bring out its smokier flavor in an easy salad alongside red onions and nutrient dense (and hydrating!) tomatoes. If all else fails, thoroughly wash some cucumbers and slice them into a pitcher filled with ice water. Did somebody say spa?

Caradonna Farm has velvety peaches that you can chill in white wine for a juicy adult snack that turns into a sweet after-dinner drink with time. You may also try this mouth-watering peach upside-down cake if, like me, you don’t want to limit the ways you can enjoy peaches while they’re in season! Grilled peaches are always a treat. Try yours with pork chops from R&M Farm; this Grilled Pork Chops with Carmelized Peaches and Basil is a yummy, market-centric meal.

Raw Chocolate Love has created icy drinks to beat the summer heat. Check out Shimon's refreshing Frappuccino, Frozen Hot Chocolate, and Frozen Caffe Mocha. Made with raw cacao and your choice of regular milk or almond milk, they are quite the treat!z

Bitchin’ Babkas are back with us this week with their awesome mixture of timeless pastry technique and bold flavors, from birthday cake to rugelach. You can also pick up gluten-free granola, lemon-summer squash scones and more from Wildcraft Baking Co. after you pay Grumpy Dumplings a lunchtime visit. Cocoa Designs Pottery is back and you owe yourself a visit to her tent.

Dough Nation's wood-fired pizza oven will be working all morning and Fearless Cook Food Truck will will be bringing local pork belly pulled pork, brisket, and cold sesame noodles along with their wood fired breakfast biscuits. Music is by Peter Calo; be sure to stick around for a set or two.

See you at the market!
