Have a delicious Memorial Day weekend!
Well folks, we made it! This Sunday's market will be the last of our "winter " season. Although it sure doesn't feel like winter anymore, we'll be operating on our winter hours for one last week. Come on down from 9:30am-1pm and close out the season with a bang. Starting June 4th, we will be operating weekly through Thanksgiving. No more having to wait two weeks for those DoughCo Bagels, farm fresh eggs and just-caught fish.
We've got a couple of new vendors joining us this week, and their products fit so perfectly together I thought I'd welcome them both with a shared recipe. Pick up some of Anita's Guacamole and classic nortena salsa from Salsa Wallito, each made from family recipes with no preservatives and tons of authentically fresh lavor, for these Sonoran carne asada tacos.R&M Farm has delicious, locally raised beef for you to season to perfection.
Madura Farm also has a beautiful selection of beets and greens right now, which would shine through in this marinated beet salad with whipped goat cheese., the perfect side dish to make for your Memorial Day weekend get-togethers. Another fresh and simple addition to a family and friends barbecue is some tuna poke with tuna from Pura Vida plus scallions, onions, and ground peanuts from Great Joy Family Farm.
If you're craving pasta, stop by La Trafila for their ever-rotating, always fresh selection. Try this very spring-y pasta salad showcasing the last asparagus of the season. Get your feta from Maplebrook Farm. To dress it you can't go wrong with Arlotta Food Studio's olive oil. My favorite for pasta, served cold or hot, is their basil-infused oil.
For the final course, why not turn a warm-weather beverage staple into a refreshing dessert? Try some Arnold Palmer ice cream using black tea from Teagevity and eggs from R&M Farm. Of course, you can find pre-made sweets with local ingredients at many of our vendors' tents, so stop by The Sconery, Anish Supreme Foods, and Nutmeg Bakery to stock up on treats for the long weekend.
Or feast on the first strawberries of the season from Caradonna! Strawberries taste great with honey.
Why don't you slow roast some halved or quartered strawberries that have been laced with local honey. Serve on your favorite ice cream or atop a slice of Bien Cuit's pain de mie bread.
While you're walking around, make sure to hydrate with cold-pressed juice from Fairy Juice Bar or our favorite cold brew from Don Carvajal Cafe. We'll see you at the market!
