Make it a local Thanksgiving!

Well folks, it’s that time of the year already: Thanksgiving is upon us, and our summer market season is coming to a close. But fear not! We won’t be entering complete hibernation. Please stop by the market tent this week to grab a copy of the winter market schedule.

Now, onto Thanksgiving recipes. Let’s start with the main event, shall we? This recipe for roast turkey with berry-mint sauce and black walnuts is a delicious take on recipes historically served by the Onondaga tribe and other indigenous peoples in the northeastern U.S. R&M Farms have flavorful pasture-raised turkey that will pair wonderfully with fresh sage from Stoneberry Farm and berries from Caradonna Farm. I also highly recommend checking out the rest of Sean Sherman’s 10 Essential Native American Recipes as we enter the Thanksgiving season.

For anyone looking to spice up (or add another recipe to the table alongside) their everyday stuffing, try this mushroom and Gruyère bread puddingMadura Farm has you covered with an incredible selection of mushrooms, Wright’s Farm has fresh eggs for the taking, and you can even get crafty with bread from Bien Cuit if store-bought bread cubes don’t cut the mustard on this special day.

Before I get into the veggies, let’s talk about pasta. This vegan poblano macaroni and cheese would shape up beautifully with fresh pasta from La Trafila as its base. You have my full endorsement to get crafty with the recipe by using Guajillo peppers from Madura Farm.

Now, I’m really excited to try these Brussels sprouts with peanut vinaigrette. This week, Boogie Down Bronx Honey will be joining us at the market, and the arrival of their local small-batch honey couldn’t be more perfectly timed to complete this recipe. With Brussels sprouts from 4E Green Farm and peanuts from Great Joy Family Farm in the mix, you can’t go wrong. Great Joy also has a selection of sweet carrots that would taste incredible if roasted with some fresh herbs from Stoneberry Farm.

Speaking of herbs...buy lots for this week. You'll regret it if you find yourself wishing you had more rosemary or parsley on Wednesday night. The same goes for garlic and shallots, too, by the way. You're welcome!

This week’s market will also feature lovely hand-embroidered pieces from Mermade, soaps and candles and fabulous diffusers from The Copper Faucet Soap Co., and plant-based Mexican meals from XOLO Food Truck. And PSA: don’t forget to get your knives sharpened at Ready Set Sharpbefore you try to carve that bird in front of the family.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’d like to thank you all for welcoming me so warmly as your new market manager. I’m looking forward to what the winter season will bring!

We’ll see you on Sunday!
