Melons...and more melons!

While the humidity from those August thunderstorms hangs in the air, what better refreshment is there than a perfectly ripe, juicy, rose red slice of watermelon? 'Tis the season! Great Joy Family Farm and Madura Farm have plenty to go around, so buy one from each farm and get creative with them by using them in savory preparations like this spicy watermelon salad or this watermelon rind kimchi. Either recipe is sure to bring zest to those long summer days. I recently tried some chilled watermelon soup that brightened up my meal (and my day) and I highly recommend you try it! Or, you can always pick up locally-raised chicken from R&M Farm and delicious jalapeñosdelicious jalapeños from Caradonna Farm to whip up some tacos with watermelon salsa

I was thrilled at our last market to see that Wright's Farm and Caradonna Farm have beautiful cantaloupes, as well. It's always such a happy surprise to find chunks of sweet and tangy ripe cantaloupe in a dish. This crab and cantaloupe salad with ginger mint dressing is a fantastic blend of seasonal produce and herbs. On the sweeter side, you can't go wrong with this melon sorbet which makes a great palate cleanser.

Don't forget to stop by the River Valley Community Grains tent to pick up some local flour and grains. Their spelt crackers should come with a warning label as they are highly addictive! Speaking of addictive... have you tried the date/nut/apricot energy bites at Anish Supreme Foods?

Annie's Ginger Elixir has just what you need to boost your immunity with their fantastic family recipe. We're happy to have Ambrosia Juicery Food Truck with us again, offering juices, avocado toasts with local flair and other fresh fare, which you can enjoy while listening to Sam Brown's soulful voice. Be sure to swing by between 10:30 and 12:30 to hear her set. And stick around a while! We're happy to hold on to your melons at the market tent.

We'll see you at the market!
